As we approach the end of the Summer holidays and the excitement of another two great sets of results for Huish Sixth and our Year 11 students starts to wane, it seems an appropriate moment to pass on my thanks to all the students, staff and parents who I have had the pleasure to work with over the past four years for their support.
I believe Huish is a great school with the best students I have ever had the privilege to work with. Over my time we have significantly improved results and are now consistently amongst the highest achieving schools in Somerset across a range of measures and our most recent results, despite the more challenging examinations, are evidence of that. However, we have also tried to develop an offer which develops the whole child and incorporates sports, the arts and a massive range of trips and visits all of which provide opportunities to develop softer skills such as leadership, resilience and teamwork. Our principled curriculum has also remained true to our belief that a broad and balanced education is best therefore we have protected time for PE to encourage healthy lifestyles, promoted the Arts and strongly encouraged students to study languages even though other courses might get the school better overall results for the league tables.
In parallel we have spent a great deal of time and money improving the facilities that our students have from redecoration, new roofs and electrical rewiring to a new classroom block, new Artificial Grass Pitch and in February a new indoor swimming pool.
Huish students deserve nothing less than the best!
None of these improvements would be possible without your support and a great team of both support and teaching staff. So as my focus starts to shift to new horizons and challenges I would like to once again thank everyone who has helped make Huish such a popular and well respected school and wish Chris Wade, my successor, all the staff and students the very best for the future.

Year 10 geographers have been learning about the devastating impact of malaria and how this disease is very simply prevented with treated mosquito nets. In March Mr Moncur (Head of Geography) will be completing his first half marathon and would like to raise money for this very important cause .
The charity he is supporting is the top rated charity for effectiveness by Givewell, an independent charity evaluation service. This means a small donation of a few pounds could really do a great deal of good (it is estimated that for every £500 spent on mosquito nets a child's life is saved). If you have a few pounds to spare, please sponsor Mr Moncyur at https://www.AgainstMalaria.com/JimMoncur

Huish Episcopi Academy students Edward Lane and Johnny Bayford in year 8 are members of Wells Lifesaving club. Both boys train hard every Sunday evening and show a great commitment and enthusiasm to lifesaving. They will both hopefully become trusted lifeguards in the future.
Edward and Johnny regularly train and compete as a pair at the junior boys level. Last Saturday (17th Sept.) Edward and Johnny, having got through the county stage, represented Somerset at the Southwest of England Regional Finals of the Royal Lifesaving Society's Annual Competition. They were up against several other pairs from Bristol, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. They did fantastically well to compete at such a high level and came second overall.
